Going years without a claim can be worth real money, and there are two tiers of it — plus one interaction with an optional coverage that most people never hear explained.
The claim-free discount looks at a five-year experience period and is based on the number of years without a chargeable claim. The rules are refreshingly specific:
The long-term claim-free discount is the deeper tier: households in force longer than five years, with no household changes and nothing on the record beyond the five-year period, qualify for more.
An optional coverage called claim forgiveness can be purchased if you have no chargeable claims in the prior five years. If you then have a covered claim, forgiveness excludes it from your rating variables — and, because the claim is treated as forgiven, the claim-free discount isn't removed for it either. One purchase can protect you from two directions.
You've been with us seven years, same house, same household, and you've never filed a claim. You can qualify for the deeper long-term claim-free tier — the one for households in force beyond five years with clean records and no household changes. You didn't apply for it and you didn't install anything. You kept being the customer every insurer wants, and the pricing reflects it.
