RV Insurance in Utah

Five national parks, slickrock basecamps in Moab, and Bear Lake summers. Utah might be the best RV state in America, and coverage here comes with a few Utah-specific rules worth knowing.

Why Local Coverage Matters

Utah runs a no-fault system, raised its liability minimums in 2025, and funnels heavy RV traffic through canyon grades and desert two-lanes. Suncoast matches Utah RVers with RV insurance that satisfies the state's rules and fits the way rigs actually travel here.

Is RV Insurance Required in Utah?

Motorhomes (Class A, B, and C) are motor vehicles under Utah law and must carry the minimums that took effect January 1, 2025 under HB 113: $30,000 bodily injury per person, $65,000 per accident, and $25,000 property damage (30/65/25), plus Utah's $3,000 per person no-fault personal injury protection, which applies to self-propelled RVs the same as cars. Travel trailers and fifth wheels carry no separate state liability or PIP requirement; the tow vehicle's coverage generally extends while towing. That extension does not cover damage to the trailer itself, so lenders require physical damage coverage on financed trailers, and parks commonly require proof of coverage.

What Can Utah RV Insurance Include?

There are many ways to build an RV policy.
Liability and PIP coverage
form the required core for motorhomes, helping pay for damage you cause and your own initial medical costs regardless of fault.
Collision coverage
helps pay to repair or replace your RV after a covered accident, regardless of fault, including canyon-grade and campground incidents.
Comprehensive coverage
helps with covered non-collision losses: hail, wind, theft, fire, and deer strikes on mountain roads.
Personal belongings protection
can help cover the gear inside, from mountain bikes to camp kitchens.

How We Help

How Much Does RV Insurance Cost in Utah?

Rates depend on the RV's class and value, usage, storage, your record, coverage choices, and deductibles.

A five minute call gets you an actual number: (877) 240-4678.
Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front
the state's biggest market, with metro storage exposure.
Moab and the southeast
slickrock country with heavy seasonal traffic.
St. George and Zion country
the year-round corner, with winter snowbird traffic.
Bear Lake and the northern lakes
summer-season use.
Provo, Ogden, and the valleys
moderate pricing with canyon access everywhere.

Ways to Save on Utah RV Insurance

Storage options trim premium during the parked months while keeping hail, fire, and theft protection active. Safe driver discounts reward a clean record, bundling RV with auto or home stacks multi-policy savings, and paid-in-full and paperless options add more. Higher deductibles trade premium for out-of-pocket on covered claims.

Financing Your RV? Read This First

Lenders almost always require collision and comprehensive coverage on a financed RV. Ask about total loss replacement or GAP coverage too: RVs depreciate fast, and the valuation method your policy pays (agreed value, replacement cost, or actual cash value) decides what a total loss actually covers.

Registering an RV in Utah

Motorhomes and trailers register through the Utah DMV (State Tax Commission), with proof of insurance required for motorhomes, registration fees, and the age-based uniform fee.

County emissions programs along the Wasatch Front cover some motorhomes; trailers are exempt. Utah's insurance database checks motorhome coverage continuously, so a lapse can suspend the registration on its own.

Got Questions?
We’ve Got Answers.

Is RV insurance required in Utah?
Motorhomes must carry Utah's minimums, 30/65/25 liability plus $3,000 PIP, in effect since January 1, 2025. Towed trailers have no separate state requirement, but lenders and many parks require coverage on the trailer itself.
Does Utah's no-fault PIP apply to RVs?
Yes, to self-propelled RVs. Motorhomes follow the same no-fault rules as cars, so $3,000 per person PIP is part of every Utah motorhome policy. Towed trailers are exempt, like other trailers.
What does RV insurance cover in Utah?
Depending on the policy: liability for injuries and damage you cause, collision, comprehensive (theft, fire, and weather), personal belongings protection, vacation liability at the campsite, and add-ons like roadside assistance. Specifics vary by carrier and policy.
How much is RV insurance in Utah?
It depends on the rig, usage, storage, your record, and coverage choices. A Moab-season fifth wheel prices differently than a Wasatch Front weekender. A quick call gets you an exact number.
Does RV insurance cover water damage or roof leaks?
It depends on the cause. Sudden covered events, like storm damage that opens the roof, generally fall under comprehensive coverage. Gradual leaks, seepage, and delamination from deferred maintenance are typically excluded, which is why roof care matters. An agent can walk through how a policy treats each scenario.
Does RV insurance cover full-time living?
Not at Suncoast. Our RV policies are built for recreational use: weekend trips, vacations, and seasonal travel. If your RV is your primary residence, you will need a specialized full-timer policy from a carrier that offers one, which we do not currently quote.
